エロティカルパレード・ジャポン!!【6】矢と愛

気鋭の女性フランス人カウンターカルチャー専門ジャーナリスト、アニエス・ジアールが、「奇妙で豊穣な性文化」について日本の様々な文化的側面から掘り下げていくユニークな比較文化論。今回は初詣で見た破魔矢に注目し、日本文化における「矢」の意味と、その伝承に含まれるエロティックな要素について自由闊達に論じていきます。
1月1日、私は新年を祝うために伏見稲荷神社を訪ねた。何千もの人々が悪魔を倒し、祓うという破魔矢を買い求めに参詣していた。





けれど、ほとんどの人が破魔矢をバッグにしまいこんでいたので、非常にさみしい心地がした。昔は、日本人は破魔矢を衣服の中、背中にしまって運んだものだ。大勢の群衆の中、たった一人だけ、伝統にならう老人がいた。




矢は日本では非常に重要なものである。日本の最初の皇后は、富登多多良伊須須岐比賣（ほとたたらいすすきひめ ※註1）といった。彼女の名前を大雑把に訳すると、50の鈴のように震える女陰姫といったところだが、省略すれば女陰姫だろうか。伝説によると、ほと姫は、2600年前に生きた女性である。彼女は神武天皇の妻であり、その名は、素晴らしいセックスを楽しんだ女性から生まれたことに由来しているという。古事記によると、昔々美しい女性が小さな川で沐浴していた……あるものは彼女が身を清めていたといい、ある者は用便をたしていたという。神は彼女に恋をし、赤い矢（丹塗矢）に変身した、そしてその美しい女性の体に辿りつくまで水面を漂っていた。ある者は、その矢は女性のヴァギナにささったのだといい、またある者は、女性が矢を見つけて拾ったのだという。とにかく、彼女はとても驚き、走って寝所にたどりつくと、矢を傍らに置いて眠り、妊娠したのである。矢は美しい男性であり、彼との間に姫は赤ん坊を孕んだのだ。

赤ん坊には、“喜びに震える50の鈴のような音をたてる女陰”という名前がついた。とても美しいラブストーリーだと思わない？　ね？

日本では、矢は大地と天の結合のシンボルである。それは雷と同じで、轟音と光とともに空からやってくる。フランスでは、それを“coup de foudre”（稲妻の一撃）といって、一目ぼれを意味する。

日本では、矢は魔術的な道具として使われてきた。弓と矢は武器であるだけではなく、霊的な力をもっているのだ。弓矢は採物（手にもつ物）の一つで周囲を浄化し、悪魔を祓い、神を呼ぶ道具であった。平安時代には、宮殿を守る衛兵が、悪霊をおびえさせるために、弓の弦を楽器のように鳴らした。

この音は、明治時代までは、意識のさらなるレベルに達して死者と語る、特別な呪術的儀式で使われることがあった。しかし明治期以降は、禁止されてしまった。




それでも、縁起物の破魔矢を買うことは、現在でも非常にポピュラーな行ないである。人々は破魔矢を鬼門と呼ばれる鬼の方向（北東と南西）に向けておく。破魔矢は家を守るのだ。これで邪悪なものは何も家に入れない。伊勢神宮の聖域の最も神聖な場所である、天照の鏡の周り（※註2）には、59張の弓が置かれているという。29張は赤（男性的エネルギー）、30張は黒（女性的エネルギー）である。これは神武天皇（ほと姫の夫）の神武東征伝説と関係があるだろう。彼はキササゲ製の弓（梓弓）を持っていたのだが、ある日、鳥が別世界からの魔法の使者のように彼の弓にとまったのだ。





日本では、弓と矢は常に男性と女性の出会いに関係している。『日本古典文学大系　3;古代歌謡集』（岩波書店 ※3）にはすべての弓について語った美しい神楽歌がある。
「弓には／違いなどなにもない／キササゲ製の弓（梓弓）／檀製の弓（ま弓）・楡製の弓（つき弓）／選ぶな、選ぶな」。この詩の意味は「愛する時、それが誰かなど気にするな、勝っているか劣っているかなど考えるな。大事なのは愛だけ」ととれる。恋人は弓のようなもの、自分の矢を放つために使え。よいセックスをするために使え。

伊勢物語の第24話でも弓と愛について語られている。それは長い間、妻の元を離れていた男の話である。彼の妻は3年待ち、他の男を部屋に入れることに決めた。まさにその夜に、彼女の夫が帰ってくるのである。彼は「入れてくれ」と頼むが、妻は悲しい和歌で答える。「3年間、私はあなたを待ちました、そして今夜、待つことに疲れた私は、新しい相手を選んだのです」。夫は応える「昔、放たれる矢のように、私は君に優しくしたものだ、だから彼にも優しくしておくれ」この物語をフランス語や英語に訳することはほぼ不可能だ。なぜならそれがまさしく矢（梓弓、ま弓、つき弓）について語っているのであり、木の名前と感情の美しさが混然となったものだからだ。選ぶな選ぶな、と物語は言う。「選ぶな、ただ新しい夫をもう一人の私のように考えよ。全ての男はお前の心の中で等しくあるはずだ」と。

この物語には悲しい結末がある。元夫が去った後、女は自身の血で和歌をしたため、死んでしまう。「私もまた、今、消えましょう」と彼女は言う。人生は放たれる矢のように短い。これが私が伏見稲荷に行った理由である。2010年は本当にあっという間に終わってしまった。だからできるだけこの新しい年を楽しもう。





arrow and love

January the 1st, I went to Fushimi inari jinja, to celebrate the new year. There were thousands of people and many came to buy a "hamaya", an "arrow to destroy the demon".

Most of the people put their "hamaya" in a bag, which is quite sad. In old times, Japanese people used to carry the "hamaya" inside their clothes, behind the neck. I saw only one old man, in this huge crowd, to respect the tradition.

Arrow is something very important in Japan. The first impress of Japan was called Hoto-tatara-isusuki-hime. Her name could be roughly translated as "princess vagina shaken like 50 suzu", but "Princess Vagina" is shorter. The legend says that Hoto-hime lived 2600 years ago. She was the wife of Jimmu tenno and her name was given to her because she was born from a woman who enjoyed great sex. Here is the story (from Kojiki): mukashi, mukashi, a beautiful woman was making intimate ablutions, on a little river… Some say she was purifying herself with water. Some say she was on the toilets. A "kami" fall in love with her and changed himself into a red arrow (ninuri-ya), floating on the river until the arrow met the body of the woman. Some say the arrow did penetrate in the vagina of the woman. Some say, the woman saw the arrow floating on the water and took it with her hand. Anyway, she was very surprised and she ran to her bedroom with the arrow and put it near her bed and then she got pregnant. The arrow was a beautiful young man and with him she had a beautiful baby.

The name of the baby became "vagina making noise like 50 suzu shaken with joy". It's a beautiful love-story, ne ?

In Japan, arrow is the symbol of union between earth and heaven. It's very similar to the thunder, coming from the sky with a powerful noise and light. In French we talk about "coup de foudre" (thunderbolt) to describe love at first sight.

In Japan, arrow has been used as a magical instrument. Bow and arrow are not only weapons. They have a spiritual power. They are part of the "torimono" (objects for the hand) used to purify the space, to expel the demons or to call the "kami". During Heian jidai, the guards who had to keep safety around imperial palace made sounds with the string of their bow, like a musical instrument, in order to frighten bad spirits.

This sound was still used in some special shamanistic ceremonies, in order to get into another level of consciousness and talk with the dead, until Meiji jidai. After Meiji jidai, it was prohibited.

But the practice of buying "hamaya" as "engimono" is still very popular. You have to put the "hamaya" in the direction of the demons (north-east and south-west) which are called "kimon". "Hamaya" protects your house. Nothing bad can enter. In Ise jingu, in the most secret part of the sanctuary, around the Amaterasu's kagami, there are 59 bows: 29 are painted red (male energy) and 30 are black (female energy). It's related to Jimmu tenno's legend. Jimmu tenno (the husband of Princess Vagina) had a bow made of catalpa (azusa yumi). One day, a bird came on his bow, like a magical messenger from another world.

In Japan, bows and arrows have always been related to male and female meeting. There is a beautiful "kagura-uta" - “Nihon koten bungakutaikei 3 ; Kodai kayou shu” which talks about all the bows: " concerning bows / there is no difference / bow made of catalpa (azusa-yumi), bow made of spindle tree (ma-tumi) / bow made of elm tree (tsuki-yumi) / Don't choose, don't choose". The meaning of this poem could be: "when in love, don't care about who you love, if it's superior or inferior. The only important thing is love". Lover is like a bow. Use it to shoot your arrow. Use it to have good sex.

In Ise monogatari, the story N°24, also talks about bows and love. It's the story of a man who went away for a long time. His wife was waiting for him, but after 3 years, she decided to receive another man in her room. On that same night, her husband came back ! He asked "Let me in", but her wife answered with a sad poem: "during 3 years, I have been waiting you, and this night, tired to wait, I have chosen a new partner". The husband replied with a poem: "As in the past, like a shooting arrow, I have been kind to you, please be kind to him." This story is nearly impossible to translate in French or English, because it talks of all the bows (azusa, ma, tsuki), mixing the names of the wood and the beauty of the feelings. "Don't choose, don't choose", says the story. "Don't choose, just consider the new husband like another myself. All men must be equal in your heart."

This story has a sad ending. After the ex-husband leaves, his wife writes a poem with her own blood and dies. "Me too, now, I disappear" she says. Life is as short as a shooting arrow. This is why I went to Fushimi inari. 2010 went away so fast. Let's enjoy the new year as much as we can.
